Blog Entry 2nd Week (27/09/2021 - 3/10/2021)

In one of this week's lessons we have talked about differnt theories of education. The acquisitionist, the deconstructivist and the integrationist. In this week's blog post I'm going to be talking about them.

First of all, i'm going to start talking about the acqusitionist theory. This theory has an objectivist view and the kids learning with this method learn what is true. They passively acquire knowledge. I don't share the ideas of this theory, as i think it's of great importance that kids actively participate in classes. From my own experience as an student, this kind of learning ends up boring students and doesn't let them connect with the lesson and what is being taught. Kids learn everything, or almost everything, that is taught but end up forgetting it in a short time using this theory while if we, on the other hand and in my opinion, use the constructivist theory, they will learn the same but will retain the information for a much longer period of time.

The constructivist theory is another one of the three theories mentioned this week. Opposite to the view in the acquisitionist theory, the deconstructivist theory has a subjective view. When using this theory, kids learn what is meaningful. They construct their knowledge instead of passively acquiring it. I believe this is a much better theory for learning. When students participate (learn through action) and are engaged on what they learn, they learn it much better (or at least that's my personal experience that I know I share with many people). And it's great because it's a much more entertaining and dynamic way of doing it.

And last, but not least: the integrationist theory. This theory is a mixture of the previous ones. Its vision is holistic. Holism holds that systems and its properties should be analyzed as a whole. Following this, this theory mixes things from both, the acquisitionist and the constructivist, theories.

In a nutshell, these are the three education theories we've seen this week. Of them all, the one I find the best is the constructivist theory. But, well, that's just my opinion.
